pigmentation on face

Pigmentation skincare or pigmentation on face is the primary reasons why people seek out dermatologist’s help. One of the most common causes of pigmentation on face is that we all know, Indians are mostly having brown coloured skin and any injury like a small acne breakout usually leads to pigmentation. The second and the most common cause we see is melasma; it is a widespread pigmentation disorder in which you see dark spots over sun-exposed areas. It is very common in the Indian population, though; it is common in women it is also much seen in men. The exact cause of melasma is unknown. Still, some risk factors can cause melasma such as U/V rays of the sun; it can be genetic, hormonal changes, pregnancy and intake of any oral contraceptive pills. The most crucial cause of melasma is to be sun exposure. There is also a strong genetic predisposition in the case of melasma. 40% of people have a family history of melasma. Some may have thyroid disfunction, allergy to any fragrance cosmetics and emotional stress, and further studies have found that even zinc deficiency could also cause melasma. And the third common cause of pigmentation could be creams over the counter used for pigmentation and fairness.

treatment for pigmentation skincare :

  • If you do have acne, make sure you do not pick at it. Because picking at it leaves more marks and pigmentation than lotion, make sure you speak to your dermatologist and use a gel-based sunscreen to prevent pigmentation from developing on these acne marks; the second thing is to use a skin lightening cream with glycolic or kojic acid which will help to lighten out these marks effectively.
  •  The second cause is melasma. Unfortunately, melasma is inherited, if your family suffers from melasma, you might too. Melasma is of three types that is epidermal, dermal and mixed. Epidermal melasma means the pigment is stick to the top layer of the skin that is the epidermis. Dermal melasma means that the pigment is at the demis layer that is a deeper layer of the skin, and mixed means the pigment is in both the layer epidermal and dermal layer. It is essential to differentiate the melasma because epidermal melasma is better in treatment than the other types. Treatment of melasma takes a long term process; it can’t be cured overnight by taking any tablets or creams. But you can keep it at bay by using a broad-spectrum sunscreen regularly and at frequent intervals so that sun doesn’t damage your skin further. Use a skin lightening cream containing retinol, glycolic acid, and oxalic acid to lighten out the skin. Treatment such as bleaching your skin and making your pigmentation worst, so avoid bleaching your skin. one should always use sunscreen on a long term basis. The most important aspect of treating melasma is controlling your sun exposer, following rigorous sun protection. It would be best if you used a broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 to apply it over your entire face and neck area and reapply it every 2-3 hours. Sunscreen has to be a part of your daily routine, a part of your life.
  •  The third reason is over the counter fairness creams; some of them contain steroids or sanitization agents that make your pigmentation much worse. When you pick your cream, discuss it with your dermatologist who can advise you whether it will benefit you or inform you of a medical cream that can be more suitable for your skin type. Ensure your sunscreen is on every day, even on a cloudy day because U/V radiation is different under the sun or disability of sunlight. You might think it’s a cloudy day, but you always need a sunscreen that protects your skin from going dark even when you are on the right skin lightening products, which is your safety barrier.
